About Us
At "My Very Own Teacher", we specialize in helping each individual child find the tools they need to succeed. We believe that it is our job to find the learning tools that best fit with a child's learning style, and to teach each child how to use the tools that are most effective for him or her. General classrooms have generic tools, which are not necessarily the most useful for every student.
Following is an excerpt from an interview of our founder, Vickie Kazanski, which defines our philosophy at My Very Own Teacher:
Interviewer: "What kind of child is hardest to teach?"
Mrs. Kazanski:
"Every child can learn. If a student is having trouble in the classroom, it doesn’t mean that student is hard to teach. It means he or she needs different tools than the ones being given in the regular classroom.
Think about being left-handed. Being left-handed doesn’t mean you can’t do all the things a right-handed person can do, but it does mean that you have to find a fit for your left hand. If you play golf, for example, you have to buy left-handed clubs . The people who make right-handed clubs are not doing anything wrong, they are just making general tools. If those tools don't work for you, you need different ones.
The same concept applies to learning. If a student is not performing to potential in the classroom, it usually means he or she needs different tools. As a teacher, or a tutor, it is my job to find the right tools.
Look at it this way, there are no students who are 'hard to teach', just sometimes there are tools that are hard to find."
